HOUSTON – Anadarko has a discovery in Jupiter-1, its latest exploration well offshore Sierra Leone.
The well was drilled by the drillship TransoceanDiscoverer Spirit in bock SL-07B-11 in the Sierra Leone/Liberia basin in a water depth of 2,199 m (7,214 ft). The positive result was confirmed by analysis of drilling, wireline logs, and reservoir fluid samples.
The location is more than 25 km (15.5 mi) west of theMercury-1 oil discovery in the same block, which intersected 30 m (98 ft) of hydrocarbon pay in the primary Upper Cretaceous objective and did not encounter a hydrocarbon water contact.
Jupiter-1 was drilled to a TD of 6,465 m (21,210 ft). On completion of operations, the drillship will transfer 15 km (9.3 mi) northeast to spud the Mercury-2 appraisal well, targeting various reservoir levels including extensions of the oil accumulations encountered by Mercury-1
“The Jupiter-1 well is a successful test that has been preserved for possible re-entry, as the area will likely require additional evaluation,” said Bob Daniels, Anadarko senior VP, Worldwide Exploration. “We are planning potential drillstem testing (DST) in the basin, following the Mercury appraisal well, to provide additional information regarding reservoir quality and deliverability.”
