TORSHAVN, Faroe Islands – The jackup Noble Julie Robertson has spudded the Pegasus West exploration well in the UK southern gas basin for operator Centrica Energy.

According to partner Atlanttic Petroleum (NASDAQ OMX: ATLA DKK & Oslo Stock Exchange: ATLA NOK), well 43/13b-7 is being drilled in 95 ft (29 m) of water in the P1724 license.

The location is 7 km (4.3 mi) west-southwest of Centrica’s 2010 Pegasus North discovery well which was P&A’d in January 2011 after encountering gas in the Carboniferous.

Pegasus West, which also has a Carboniferous target, is close to the producing Cavendish field. The rig should be on location for over two months.

Ben Arabo, Atlantic’s CEO, said: “The well is designed to delineate the extent of the Pegasus field and if successful, to help de-risk any future Pegasus development.”
