OSLO, Norway -- Statoil will resume exploration drilling in the Barents Sea, following approval for its latest program from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The Polar Pioneer will drill well 7220/8-1 in production license 532, which Statoil operates, in partnership with Eni Norge and Petoro.
The drilling location is 100 km (62 mi) northwest of the producing Snøhvit field. This will be the first exploration well on the license, which takes in blocks 7219/9, 7220/4, 7220/5, 7220/7, and 7220/8.
