STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- The semisubmersible Transocean Winner has started drilling the Earb South prospect in the Norwegian North Sea for Marathon Petroleum.

According to partner Lundin Petroleum, the 25/10-11 well location in license PL 505 is 15 km (9.3 mi) west of the Balder field and 35 km (21.7 mi) south of the Heimdal facilities. Planned TD is 4,460 m (14,632 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling should take 90 days excluding testing.

The well targets sandstones in the Draupne formation (Brae formation equivalent) and the Hugin formation. Lundin says Earb South holds gross unrisked prospective gas and condensate resources of 81 MMboe.
