Transocean Leader mobilizes for Barents Sea well

Safety Authority Norway has approved Lundin Norway’s application for exploration drilling in the Barents Sea, using the semisubmersible Transocean Leader drilling rig.

OSLO, Norway -- Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Lundin Norway’s application for exploration drilling in the Barents Sea, using the semisubmersible Transocean Leader drilling rig.

The rig will drill well 7120/2-3 in production license 438, at a location 172 km (107 mi) northwest of Melkøya, and 30 km (18.6 mi) northwest of the Snøhvit field. Water depth is 312 m (1,023 ft).

Drilling will start in mid-May, with an estimated duration ranging from 56 days in the event of a dry hole, to 71 days for a discovery.
