LUANDA, Angola -- Sonangol has approved Cobalt International Energy’s plans for two pre-salt exploratory wells.
The Cameia-1 and Bicuar-1 wells will both be drilled on offshore block 21. Cobalt plans to drill the surface hole of Bicuar-1, transfer the rig to Cameia-1 to drill and evaluate that prospect, then return to drill Bicuar-1 to total depth.
The program should start by mid-year. By that point, Cobalt also expects completion of the formal award of its 40% working interest and operatorship in offshore block 20.
