According to partner Marathon Oil, the Diaman-1B exploration well encountered 160-180 net ft (49-55 m) of hydrocarbon pay. Early analysis suggests natural gas with condensate content.
The well was drilled to a TD of 18,323 ft (5,585 m) in around 5,673 ft (1,729 m) of water in the Diaba license G4-223. It confirms the existence of a working petroleum system and is the first discovery in the deepwater portion of the presalt play.
The location is more than 60 mi (97 km) from the nearest other presalt commercial discovery.
Evaluation of the well results continues. The well will be temporarily abandoned pending further analysis of the data.
