The offshore rig market saw little change in December, remaining essentially flat across all categories. The total number of rigs under contract fell a mere two rigs, taking the number of jackups, semis, and drillships under contract from 417 to 415. At the same time, the total supply of units only fell by one to 803, a pace that needs to pick back up in this new year if utilization numbers are ever to improve. Speaking of utilization, from November to December, as the other figures stayed nearly flat, the rate only dropped from 51.8% to 51.7%. However, at least the number of rigs working experienced an equally small boost, going from 375 in November to 376 in December.
