TORONTO, Canada  The Hercules semisub is transiting along the coast of West Africa to Namibia for a drilling campaign for Galp Energia.

In May, Galp entered a contract with SFL Corp. to supply the rig under a 115-day contract, covering two wells plus optional well testing.

According to Sintana Energy Inc., which has a 49% indirect interest in Galp’s partner Custos Energy, Hercules should reach Walvis Bay in early November, and it will then move to the first well location with a planned spud in mid-November.

The initial target will be the Mopane complex at the southern end of PEL 83 in the Orange Basin, covering blocks 2813A and 2814B.

According to Knowledge Katti, chairman and CEO of Custos and a director of Sintana, “The significant prospectivity of PEL 83 together with its relatively shallower water depth, position it to be one of the most significant and profitable developments in the Orange Basin.”

The license is north of the Shell-operated PEL 39, which contains the Graff-1, La Rona-1 and Jonker-1 discoveries. Shell has an ongoing well campaign that is due to continue into 2024.

PEL 83 is also northeast of PEL 56 where TotalEnergies discovered the Venus oil field.
