MELBOURNE, Australia – FAR has completed its review of the prospectivity of the A2 and A5 blocks offshore The Gambia, following the Bambo drilling campaign in late 2021.

Although this did not result in a commercial discovery, drilling and logging data obtained from the main well (Bambo-1) and the side-track (Bambo-ST1) confirmed the presence of a prolific oil source in the area.

Oil shows encountered during drilling were consistent over several hundred meters, confirming key reservoirs had access to this oil-generative zone, the company added.

The Soloo prospect S440 and S410 objectives delivered indications of hydrocarbons, while oil shows in the Bambo prospect S390 and S400 reservoirs, encountered in the Bambo1 and Bambo-ST1 wells, suggest updip potential at both levels in the A2 block. FAR is referring to these prospective target intervals as the new Panthera prospect.

It has drawn up additional exploration opportunities, with three of the mapped prospects – Panthera, Jatto and Malo – said to provide multiple, potential oil-bearing reservoir targets.

Samples taken from the drilling program remain under laboratory analysis and work continues on mapping the deeper oil-bearing reservoirs.

FAR will now seek to farm-down its interest in the two blocks and seek a carry on the cost of drilling the next well in late 2023.
