Island Drilling wins contracts in the North Sea, Mauritania

Petrofac and Maersk Decom Mauritania A/S have contracted the Island Drilling semisubmersible Island Innovator.

BERGEN, Norway – Petrofac and Maersk Decom Mauritania A/S have contracted the Island Drilling semisubmersible Island Innovator.

For Petrofac, the rig will conduct a workover on Tailwind Energy’s Orlando oil field in the UK northern North Sea. The contract is expected to start in 2Q/3Q 2022 after completing the BP-7 well for Dana Petroleum.

For Maersk Decom, the rig will P&A four wells in the Tullow Oil-operated Banda and Tiof fields offshore Mauritania. The work is expected to start in 4Q 2022 and take an estimated 75 days. The contract includes an optional well.

The Banda and Tiof fields are respectively 53 km (33 mi) and 84 km (52 mi) offshore in water depths from 200 to 1,200 m (656 to 3,937 ft).

This contract will keep the Island Innovator in operation during the winter in 2022. The rig is expected to be back in the North Sea in early 2023.
