STAVANGER, Norway – Wellbore construction/completions specialist Marwell has installed a tailored solution to replace centralizer subs for a major IOC in the Norwegian North Sea, in partnership with Maxwell Oil Tools.
A 17-in. liner was needed to run through a 17.562-in. ID wellhead restriction in order to centralize the string sufficiently in the under-reamed 20-in. open hole.
Marwell worked with Maxwell and the operator to design a slim stop collar with high holding force, using the Slimstop bonded composite stop collar.
The application was on a well in a chalk formation at a mature field. To achieve the cementing objectives, the stop collars were run with a third-party supplied bow spring-type centralizer to deliver the required standoff in the hole.
The ensuing close tolerance stop collar application was independently verified as robust, allowing running of the 17-in. liner through the wellhead restriction and cementing it as planned.
