ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Van Oord is claiming a new water depth record for subsea rock installation.
Its flexible fallpipe vessel Stornes perfumed these works in 1,364 m of water for Woodside’s Sangomar field development, 100 km offshore Senegal’s capital Dakar.
Subsea7 contracted Van Oord to place 262,000 metric tons of rock in water depths ranging from 800-1,364 m to stabilize and protect subsea infrastructure.
Due to the remote project location, Van Oord explained, the rock is supplied to the vessel via a ship-to-ship transfer.
