RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil —Petrobras has discovered gas in deepwater offshore Colombia.
The Uchuva-1 well was drilled in the Tayrona Block, with Petrobras as operator with 44.44% interest, in partnership with Ecopetrol (55.56%).
The location is 32 km from the coast and 76 km from Santa Marta city in 830 m water depth.
Petrobras credited the consortium's actions to enhance use of data through applying new geological and geophysical technological solutions, supported by its experience in deepwater operations.
The partners will seek to delineate the extent of the gas accumulation. Uchuva boosts prospects for developing a new frontier of exploration and production in Colombia, Petrobras added.
