BOGOTÁ, Colombia — Ecopetrol and Occidental Petroleum subsidiary Anadarko Colombia Co. have agreed to jointly explore deepwater blocks COL 1, COL 2, COL 6 and COL 7 in the northeastern Colombian sector of the Caribbean Sea.
Under the agreement, which remains subject to approvals, Ecopetrol will have a 40% interest in the E&P rights, while Anadarko operates with a 60% interest.
The blocks are more than 150 km offshore the Atlántico, Magdalena and La Guajira coastal regions.
Geological studies and seismic analysis, acquired by Anadarko, suggest potential for substantial hydrocarbon accumulations, according to Ecopetrol.
Plans include potentially drilling one exploration well.
