Spirit reserves Well-Safe rig to decommission North Sea York wells
Spirit Energy has contracted Well-Safe Solutions to decommission five wells connected to the York gas platform in Block 47/03a of the UK southern North Sea.
The jackup Well-Safe Protector is due to start the 97-day program next spring, with two optional subsea wells to be decommissioned in direct continuation or at a later date.
In March this year, the semisub Well-Safe Defender completed a 15-well subsea decommissioning campaign for the same operator at the Trees, Chestnut and Appleton fields in the central UK North Sea.
Spirit Energy’s head of wells, Nicky Riley, said York reached the end of its economic life this summer.
Well-Safe Defender will decommission at least two subsea wells in the North Sea for another unnamed operator under a second new contract. The work will start next March in continuation of the rig’s current program and last for 75 days.
The contract includes scope for two optional subsea wells, with work potentially getting underway directly after the firm scope is completed, and a further three subsea wells are to be executed during 2026.
