ABERDEEN, UK -- Maersk FPSOs has contracted AMEC to perform front-end engineering design (FEED) for modifications to the Curlew FPSO in the UK central North Sea.

This work is part of a project to extend the life of the Shell-operated Curlew field, focusing on the Curlew D gas condensate accumulation 210 km (130 mi) east of Aberdeen.

To maximize recovery from the reservoir, the study will evaluate the feasibility of a reduction in pressure of condensate arriving at the Curlew FPSO.

AMEC was responsible for engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the topside facilities and utilities for the original development in the mid-1990s, which involved converting a tanker into the Curlew FPSO. Production started 19 months after contract award.
