Welch Generator Rentals, based 30 minutes from Fourchon, has been awarded the topside commissioning contract for the BHP Billiton-operatedNeptune TLP project.
Welch will provide power generation and distribution for the TLP’s topside commissioning over a nine-month period. Partners in the Neptune project include Marathon Oil Co., Woodside Petroleum Ltd., and Maxus (US) Exploration.
Welch’s generators are heavy-duty built specifically for offshore environments.
First production from the $850-million Neptune project is expected by the end of this year, from seven subsea wells. Neptune is being developed with a stand-alone TLP with capacity for 50,000 b/d of oil and 50 MMcf/d of gas. Recoverable reserves from the field are estimated at 100-150 MMboe.
Welch has served the Gulf Coast since 1947. According to the company, all of its equipment is heavy-duty built specifically for the offshore environment.
Welch’s diverse portfolio of products and services includes design and manufacturing of prime power-rated diesel generators ranging from 15 to 1,400 kw. The company also builds and sells natural gas generators.
In addition, Welch rents and sells new and used units and offers US Department of Transportation-approved diesel tanks, distribution racks, x-proof pole lighting, receptacle racks, transfer switches, and transformers.
Welch also carries a complete line of HVAC equipment available for rental and sale. The equipment offering includes air conditioners, heaters, chillers, and dehumidifiers, the company says.
Not only does Welch build, rent, and sell equipment, it maintains a full-service department of offshore electricians.
