Prime Energy, a provider of oil-free rental air compressors to the oil and gas industry, is now offering what it calls the first 100% oil-free compressors specially designed for offshore applications.
The diesel-driven high-pressure units, identified by the model name PNS 1250-offshore, are designed to meet stringent environmental and safety requirements and are packaged in a rugged shipping frame specifically for offshore use.

“It is our brand promise and highest priority to be our customers’ trusted partner for rental air solutions and 24/7 customer service,” says Prime Energy VP Horst Wasel. “We want to give our customers the best oil-free compressor brand on the market: a reliable, high-pressure, offshore Atlas Copco unit combined with the environmental-friendly Tier III CAT diesel-engine technology.”
Wasel says the new compressors will be used primarily for cleaning pipes, dehydration, pressure-testing pipes, and instrument-air applications (such as operating valves).
The company says the oil-free design of the air compressor provides the best air quality a compressor can produce, eliminating the risk of unwanted oil contamination and increasing the longevity of any drying equipment.
The air compressor has an operating pressure ranging from 80 to 350 psig, which will increase utilization whether the unit is used in deep or shallow water. “The broad operating ranges allow the compressor to operate as well in the North Sea as it does in the Gulf of Mexico,” Wasel says. The company serves the US, Canada, and Mexico and is positioned for international rental projects with the Atlas Copco Oil & Gas Rental group.
With a capacity of 1250 cu ft/min, the compressor is equipped with a DNV 2.7.1-approved protective lifting frame plus accompanying lifting slings and shackles.
Its fuel tank is made of marine aluminum material, while stainless steel is used for the piping and canopy-door hinges, as well as the fuel lines and external mechanical fuel isolation valve. The canopy, frame, and internal parts have a special epoxy coating, and coolers are painted with a Teflon coating.
Other features include operator safety devices (emergency stop buttons, warning light, and alarm horn), spark arrestors, interior lighting, over-speed protection, and auxiliary tank hookups with a switching valve. The company offers more than 15 models of diesel and electric 100% oil-free compressors. Integrated or external after-coolers and dryers are also available.
