FLEKKEFJORD, Norway – PARAT Halvorsen has introduced a multi-fuel boiler, suitable for offshore platforms and vessels.

The MCS combined exhaust gas / fuel-fired / electrical boiler is said to allow vessel operators to switch between different fuel sources for optimum efficiency.

It can also be used to provide electrical back-up during vessel operation, or to allow vessels to use emission-free shore power when in port.

According to PARAT, the boilers can be configured to suit both older and newer platforms, some of which (offshore Norway) are designed to receive power from shore.

Offshore support vessels with hybrid power arrangements are another target.

According to Johnny Svindland, head of marketing: “Installations, which can be vertical or horizontal depending on layout and space constraints, can be undertaken on existing vessels in port or at sea, with the retrofit upgrade and boiler optimization managed by PARAT as a turnkey project.”
