SINGAPORE – Steel wire rope fabricator Franklin Offshore International has entered an exclusive co-operation agreement with Lankhorst Ropes to offer fiber rope slings for heavy-lift offshore projects in Southeast Asia.
Offshore contractors are striving to maximize vessel crane lift capacity. Lankhorst claims fiber rope slings can be a more practical and cost-effective alternative to steel wire ropes.
Under the agreement, Franklin Offshore will be sole distributor and representative for the sale of Lankhorst’s heavy-lift synthetic rope slings in the region.
“We recognize that recent developments in fiber rope slings…now make it a viable alternative to steel wire in those projects where the self-weight of the wire is too much for the vessel’s crane,” said Angie Tang, CEO of Franklin.
The Lankoforce range provides a minimum breaking load of around 2,000 t in a single- leg configuration and 3,200 t in a grommet configuration, with the Lankoforce HL slings available in eye-and-eye and endless loop (grommet) modes.
Wilco Stroet, managing director, Lankhorst Ropes, said the slings “increase the lifting options for offshore contractors. They maximize crane lifting capabilities, provide a gentler lift and extend the reach of subsea deployment systems in deepwater.”
