STAVANGER, Norway– Statoil continues to expand in Australia, with the award of 100% equity share in an exploration permit in the Northern Carnarvon basin on the Northwest Shelf of Australia.
The permit WA-506-P covers an area of more than 13,000 sq km (5,019 sq mi), located 300 km (186 mi) off Western Australia in water depths of 1,500–2,000 m (4,921–6,562 ft). The National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA) awarded the permit to Statoil through the 2013 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release.
Statoil plans to collect 2,000 line km (1,243 line ft) of 2D seismic and 3,500 sq km (1,351 sq mi) of 3D seismic data within three years. Based on analysis of this information, Statoil will decide on further steps.
