HOUSTON -- Ulstein Sea of Solutions and NLI have introduced a new, integrated derrick system, based on proven and readily available technologies.
The fully integrated derrick includes the drillfloor and substructure. It can be transported, delivered and installed as a turnkey unit from a shipyard or from NLI’s construction yard.
The derrick comprises a box beam structure with a collapsible/retractable top part allowing safe passage under bridges.
Pipes, cables and elevator are all run inside the derrick legs, which the duo claims allows for a sheltered environment, reduced maintenance costs and increased safety. The derrick should also be suitable for upgrading for Arctic operations.
The lay-out is designed to provide a clean drillfloor and wider operational flexibility, as three operations can be simultaneously performed. This is achieved due to the location of the BOP and riser string handling outside of the derrick, for instance for christmas tree deployment. Stand / casing building is conducted within the derrick.
