ABB to provide safety/automation systems for Valhall field re-development

ABB has won a contract to provide safety and automation systems for BP Norge's Valhall field redevelopment in the North Sea. The systems, based on the company's 800xA design, will be integrated with existing Advant/Master kit already on the field. ABB says the new order will allow upgrade of the control systems to include any automation component with one simple interface, leading to more efficient platform management.
The company was already conducting pre-engineering work with Wood Group relating to safety, automation and telecommunication equipment for Valhall's new production and accommodation installation, due to be completed in 2009.
