Halliburton announced a collaborative program with Intel Corp. to identify and promote Halliburton-developed oilfield solutions enabled by Intel's computing technology. The companies will be seeking improved performance and reliability in wireless fracturing spreads and pressure pumping, Real Time Operations centers, electronic field tickets, e-commerce solutions, and knowledge management.

The company unveiled the new working relationship at its Real-Time Operations Center in Calgary, Canada, in conjunction with the American Association of Petroleum Geologist's annual convention. Tim Probert, senior vice president for drilling and formation evaluation, Halliburton, demonstrated the capability of wireless network technology to improve safety and control during fracturing operations. By replacing cabling connections between the pump trucks and control truck with a wireless hotspot, setup time is reduced by as much as 12 hours and safety in improved because fewer people are required in the red zone, where high pressure operations occur.

Dick Bland, director of worldwide energy solutions, Intel, emphasized Intel's enablement of the electronic oilfield using wireless network technology to improve performance, reliability, and scalability in Halliburton's future oilfield operations. The company will help Halliburton create technology convergence in the oilfield so that wireless devices will communicate and compute to improve field operations.

Halliburton expanded its Calgary one-year-old RTOC to include a Reservoir Modeling Center of Excellence. The new center provides comprehensive field development expertise for reservoir characterization, geostatistical modeling, geocellular modeling, numerical simulation, and production optimization.

"This unique service offering in Canada combines the latest in Halliburton's real-time asset management solutions with an extensive reservoir knowledge base," David Ackert, Halliburton's regional vice president, said. "It is capable of delivering fully integrated field development studies from reservoir description through to drilling and completions, production enhancement, and production management services."
