KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Petronas has established two new technology and research centers in the UK, at Imperial College London and Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Both will target technological advancements in low-carbon and cleaner energy solutions.
The PETRONAS Centre for Engineering of Multiphase Systems (PETCEMS) at Imperial is focused on solutions involving computational modeling.
Initial joint projects with Imperial covered process scale-up, production chemicals, graphene and reservoir modeling, and were followed in 2019 by a further agreement covering sustainability to support Petronas’ Net Carbon Zero by 2050 aspirations.
The PETRONAS Centre of Excellence in Subsurface Engineering and Energy Transition is based at Heriot-Watt’s Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering.
Here there are plans for joint initiatives concerning carbon capture and storage through advanced reservoir characterization; subsurface exploration and an Artificial Intelligence-driven seismic study, to optimize hydrocarbon resources.
