DALLAS – Kosmos Energy expects to resume exploration drilling offshore Equatorial Guinea during the second half of the year.
The company will draw up prospects based on analysis of 3D seismic acquired in 2018. This comprised around 9,500 sq km (5,903 sq mi) over blocks EG-21, EG-24, S and W, and 200 sq km (124 sq mi) over block G.
In January, Kosmos acquired Ophir Energy’s 40% interest in EG-24 giving it an 80% operated position, subject to governmental approvals.
Last September, Kosmos joined Shell as a partner in the PEL 39 license offshore Namibia, in water depths ranging from 250-3,000 m (820-9,842 ft).
Acquisition finished last month of a 6,000-sq km (3,728-sq mi) area of the concession, and processing of the data is under way. Here too the partners are compiling an inventory of prospects and integrating the new 3D data in their geological evaluation, with a view to drilling in 2020.
