STAVANGER, Norway – Wintershall and its partners have submitted a plan for development and operation (PDO) for the Nova (ex-Skarfjell) field in the North Sea to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
It is the first PDO declared this year on the Norwegian continental shelf.
Nova will be developed as a subsea tieback connecting two templates to theNeptune-operated Gjøa platform for processing and export. Gjøa will in addition provide lift gas to the field and water injection for pressure support, with power for the subsea facilities provided from the shore via the semisubmersible Gjøa platform.
“As well as selecting the most economically robust solution for developing the Nova field, using existing infrastructure is the most environmentally friendly solution,” said Wintershall Norge Managing Director Hugo Dijkgraaf.
Estimated capex for the project is NOK9.9 billion ($1.2 billion) to recover around 80 MMboe of reserves, most of which is oil.
Pending final approval by the Norwegian authorities, the partners are proceeding to the execution phase, with a planned start-up in 2021.
This will be Wintershall Norge’s third operated subsea field, withMaria coming onstream last December in the Norwegian Sea nearly a year ahead of schedule.
Nova, discovered in 2012 in the northeastern Norwegian North Sea, is 20 km (12 mi) southwest of the Neptune-operated Gjøa platform and 120 km (75 mi) northwest of Bergen.
Partners are Capricorn Norge, Spirit Energy, Edison Norge, and DEA Norge.
