HOUSTON– Rowan Companies plc has issued an update on its offshore drilling rig fleet.
In the US Gulf of Mexico,LLOG has awarded the ultra-deepwater drillship Rowan Resolute a two-well contract with an estimated duration of 85 days. It is expected to start in late June/early July 2018.
The jackupRowan Viking, which is currently contracted to Lundin offshore Norway, has won two new contracts.
Shell UK awarded the rig a five-well contract with an estimated duration of 100 days. Drilling is expected to get under way after it completes the Lundin contract.
Offshore Norway,MOL has awarded the Rowan Viking a two-well contract with an estimated duration of 110 days. The first well is expected to begin after the Shell UK contract and last about 55 days. The drilling contractor said that it anticipates a three- to -six-month gap before the second well.
In addition, the drilling contractor has renamed its newest rigs, two LeTourneau Super 116E jackup rigs, after late Rowan retirees.
TheP-59 is being renamed the Bess Brants, after one of the company’s first employees who retired in 1968 as Secretary – Treasurer and a member of the board of directors for both Rowan Drilling Inc. and Rowan Oil Co.
TheP-60 is being renamed the Earnest Dees, to honor a rig manager who retired in 1994 after helping establish Rowan’s international operations and mentoring countless crew members.
