Iranian team restores production from abandoned Doroud offshore well

TEHRAN, Iran – Khark Operating Area (KOA) specialists and divers have reinstated an oil production well in the Doroud field in the Persian Gulf that had lain abandoned for more than 40 years.
Due to a risk of fractures in the associated pipeline, there was uncertainty over the well commissioning operation, so KOA tasked its Undersea Maintenance Unit with first inspecting the pipeline in cooperation with the well service, operation and maintenance division of Iranian Offshore Oil Co.
This would be followed by repair of the wellhead riser and injection of gas into the well.
Last month KOA divers, operating in water depths of up to 51 m (167 ft), identified two leakage points a short distance from the western coast of Khark Island and 2,350 m (7,710 ft) south of the Azarpad oil dock.
After draining the remaining water in the pipeline and injecting the gas to the required pressure, the team investigated other possible leakages and found that the pipeline was acceptable for commissioning. The well was then worked over and production resumed.
The well had produced its first oil in 1975 but had to be shut off in 1979 due to declining pressure.
Iranian news service Shana also reported that Iran and India have resolved their differences over the offshoreFarzad B gas development in the Persian Gulf, after Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh held talks with Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi during the International Energy Forum.
Zanganeh now expected the Indian companies involved in the project to present their proposals within two months.
