GTA project offshore Mauritania, Senegal progressing to fall startup
bp is targeting handover to operations in September of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim FPSO in September, partner Kosmos Energy said in its trading update.
The vessel is moored at the location offshore Mauritania and Senegal, and it is undergoing commissioning. First gas should follow soon after the handover.
Golar LNG, supplier of Gimi, the project’s nearshore FLNG vessel, has implemented a “commercial reset” agreement with bp, settling prior disputes related to payment mechanisms for “pre-commercial operations date” contractual cash flows. The two parties have also agreed to start commissioning of FLNG Gimi with an LNG cargo prior to the availability of gas from the FPSO.
As for the overall development, the first four wells have been completed with an anticipated production capacity somewhat higher than the volumes needed for first gas, Kosmos said.
The FLNG vessel is moored at the hub terminal, which has been handed over to operations. The partners are working to advance commissioning and plan to bring in a pre-commissioning cargo to accelerate cool-down of the vessel later this month. First LNG should follow during the fourth quarter.
Final subsea connections are progressing, and mechanical completion for first gas should occur this month.
Kosmos has also completed concept development studies for its Yakaar-Teranga gas/LNG project offshore Senegal, and it aims to finalize the partnership to help move the development forward.
Offshore Equatorial Guinea, the drillship Noble Venturer has finished drilling the first infill well in Block G with positive early results, with a second infill well to follow. Both should go online in the fourth quarter, after which the rig will drill the Akeng Deep ILX prospect in Block S.
At the Tullow-operated Jubilee Field offshore Ghana (Kosmos 38.6%), the partnership plans to a new 4D seismic survey in early 2025 to support selection of optimal drilling locations for a proposed 2025/2026 drilling campaign.
At year-end 2023, Offshore's sister publication Oil & Gas Journal reported that Kosmos Energy increased production 17% quarter-over-quarter to 68,200 boe/d with the startup of the Jubilee South East development offshore Ghana, but production ramp-up was slower than expected.
