SINGAPORE -- Babcock is to perform an engineering survey on the new pipelay/heavy-lift vessel Acergy Borealis, currently under construction at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore.
The program will include laser scanning and 3D modeling to minimize dimensional uncertainty and to ensure that the various components manufactured in different locations fit together first time.
Surveys will be conducted at various locations in Asia, West Africa, and Europe. The software employed will allow Babcock to analyze the captured geometry and to provide advice on any potential issues prior to delivery. This aims to avoid on-site re-work and associated costs/delays.
Babcock will be working alongside Acergy on this project until the Acergy Borealis has been delivered, likely in the first half of 2012.
