BERGEN, Norway  Volstad Maritime has commissioned Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) to supply a battery package and associated control system for charging to the Deep Cygnus subsea construction vessel.

The vessel will shortly undergo an upgrade to battery power notation before starting a new charter contract in early 2024.

Over the past six months, Volstad had asked NES to deliver similar battery packs and charging system to its Volantis, Grand Canyon II and Grand Canyon III offshore construction vessels.

Deep Cygnus is a 122-m long, DP, multi-role vessel with a 150-t active heave compensated subsea crane, which has been operating in the North Sea.

NES will use its facilities in Bergen, Egersund and Ålesund to design, assemble and test the latest battery package and control system, which should be delivered this fall.
