PERTH, Australia Petrofac has assumed operatorship of the Northern Endeavour FPSOon behalf of the Australian government.

The company’s team based in Perth is completing the Phase 1 decommissioning program for the vessel, under a contract awarded earlier this year by the Australian government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

Preparations to prepare the 274-m-long FPSO for disconnection (the vessel is in nonproduction mode) started with physical inspections at the location between the Laminaria and Corallina oil fields, 550 km northwest of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Much of the vessel’s crew have been retained to support the campaign.

The Perth team is responsible for the safety and day-to-day operation of the FPSO, with support from Petrofac’s global technical hubs.
