SKUDENESHAVN, NorwaySolstad Offshore will invest more than NOK300 million ($34 million) over the next three years in battery hybrid conversion projects for 11 vessels in its offshore fleet, supported by a grant of NOK87 million ($9.77 million) from Innovation Norway.

The company’s goal is to cut its global fleet emissions by 50% by 2030.

Following the conversions, the 11 vessels, which include some of its largest construction ships, should be able to connect to shore power in ports and harbors. Solstad will then have 21 battery hybrid vessels in its fleet.

These upgrades should cut the group’s CO2 emissions by 12,000 tons annually.

Earlier this year, Innovation Norway introduced a scheme that supports the removal older vessels from the market while at the same time funding ‘green’ upgrades of other vessels with green technology.

The scheme will support the emissions action plan set by the Norwegian government.

In October Solstad announced that it would recycle seven of its vessels at specialist yards in Norway in accordance with national and international regulations.

Also, an undisclosed major energy company has contracted Solstad’s construction support vessel Normand Maximus
