PORTSMOUTH, UK – ASV Global has deployed one of its C-Worker 7 class autonomous surface vessels to assist a Subsea 7 pipelay operation offshore Egypt.
The ASV, which was equipped with a multi-beam echosounder and side scan sonar, performed touchdown monitoring in support of the pipelay vesselSeven Antares.
In total, the ASV operated for 37 days and removed the need for an additional survey vessel, leading to cost savings.
It also provided improved availability compared to an equivalent manned vessel, ASV Global claimed, while resolving the technical challenge of surveying in very shallow waters.
A modular payload frame, designed to house the survey equipment suite, slotted into the C-Worker 7’s moonpool for mounting and deployment of the sensors.
Tests established repeated sensor deployment to within millimeter accuracy, meaning that no further survey sensor calibrations were required (prior vessel trials and testing had taken place in the Solent offshore southern England).
Throughout the campaign the C-Worker 7 was controlled and monitored using an ASView control system from a control station onboard theSeven Antares. Subsea 7 Survey’s team piloted the ASV and operated the survey sensors.
