BURNABY, British Columbia – Cellula Robotics Ltd. that its Solus-XR extra large unmanned underwater vehicle (XLUUV) has embarked upon its sea trials.
The trials are expected to signifying a key milestone in the company’s development of a long-range hydrogen fuel cell-powered autonomous underwater systems.
Building upon the foundation of Cellula’s preceding innovation, Solus-LR, the Solus-XR XLUUV is said to have an operation range of 5,000 kilometers. Through its port-to-port mission capability, the Solus-XR is designed to remove the necessity for auxiliary support vessels, thus facilitating access to challenging and remote locations frequently encountered in Arctic sub-ice missions.
The initial sea trials are designed to evaluate surface performance and autonomy, and offer an opportunity to assess the vehicle’s capabilities in the dynamic context of real-world maritime conditions.
Cellula Robotics says that future missions will underscore the vehicle’s potential for underwater security operations. The Solus-XR XLUUV is said to be the largest UUV ever developed in Canada.
