MILAN, Italy — Petrobras has commissioned Saipem to develop and test an autonomous subsea inspection robot offshore Brazil.

This will be based on Saipem’s fleet of underwater drones, initially focused on the Flatfish AUV. The program will include qualification of associated autonomous drone-based services, with future inspection contract options.

Saipem said the work would take the new features of its development up to Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL7).

Offshore Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco has awarded the company a new EPCI contract under their existing long-term agreement.

The scope covers five platforms and various subsea pipelines, flowlines and cables at the offshore Marjan Field, under a fully in-Kingdom fabrication program.

Saipem estimates the combined value of the two awards at about $1 billion.
