BW Energy, Rhino confirm two more exploration wells offshore Namibia
BW Energy and partner NAMCOR E&P have contracted the Deepsea Mira semisub to drill the Kharas appraisal well on the Kudu license (PPL003) offshore Namibia in the Orange Basin, according to a July 28 BW Energy press release.
Drilling should begin later this year. The assignment forms part of a rig-sharing arrangement with Rhino Resources.
On July 8, Deepsea Mira owner Northern Ocean announced it had signed a contract for the rig with a Rhino subsidiary for up to five wells, comprising one firm well for Rhino on the Volans-1X exploration well on license PL85, a second well for another operator (BW Energy), and three optional wells. The estimated firm duration of the contract is 112 days.
Rhino CEO Travis Smithard said Volans-1X would be the third successive well on PEL85 in collaboration with service company partners, Northern Ocean, Exceed and Halliburton.
