ABERDEEN — IKM Testing's Methane Emissions Quantification service recently took to the skies to perform a drone-based methane emissions survey of Bumi Armada’s Kraken FPSO, IKM shared on its LinkedIn last week.
Bumi Armada requested IKM to assist in establishing the baseline methane emissions of the Kraken FPSO. The first stage of establishing baseline methane emissions was achieved through deploying IKM’s aerial quantification method to quantify actual methane emissions from the installation.
The results from IKM provided Bumi with a breakdown of the methane emissions measured during the scope, including an overall asset methane emissions value and localization of emission hot spots. By performing multiple surveys, IKM was able to provide an assessment of the efficiency of the Kraken’s flare. Bumi will incorporate the results of the survey into its methane action plan, with the overall aim of reducing methane emissions on the Kraken FPSO.
Based on the success of the operation, Bumi has requested IKM to return and complete a second aerial survey on the Kraken FPSO in third-quarter 2023 to validate the results from the initial survey.
