LUXEMBOURG — Subsea7 has commissioned Bakker Sliedrecht to equip the Seven Arctic heavy construction/flex-lay vessel with an energy-saving and storage system.
The DP3 vessel, which can operate in water depths of up to 3,000 m, has a total installed power of 27 MW.
A new containerized battery room will provide up to 3.75 MW of extra power and 1.25 MW of energy, with a connection to receive power from shore. The arrangement should cut CO2 emissions by 5,000 t, Subsea7 said.
The contract for supplying and fitting the energy storage system has been awarded to Bakker Sliedrecht, an electrical integrator specialist in dynamic positioning vessels.
“The energy storage system can work with any battery or storage type," said Bas Oskam, Bakker Sliedrecht's director of sales. “The control system is designed with maximum autonomy in mind, allowing for integration with different existing power and vessel management systems on board.”
