KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia  ABS is supporting development of Malaysia’s first offshore supply vessel (OSV) to feature an innovative vessel design and battery system, according to a recent company news release.

The vessel will be designed to ABS Rules, with ABS New Technology Qualification (NTQ) procedures applied to assess the Blue G battery system, a power source that can be charged by generator sets onboard or from the shore.

With this technology, the vessel should save fuel and cut its carbon footprint, operational expenses and life-cycle costs.

ABS Engineering in Singapore will support the development consortium, which includes three Malaysian shipbuilding and ship repair companies, Grade One Marine Shipyard, Muhibbah Marine Engineering and Shin Yang Shipyard.

Evolution Concepts will lead the design of the vessel, supported by Gennal Engineering, MacGregor, Raytheon Anschuetz Singapore and Sindex Refrigeration, with Gennal providing the battery system.
