MODEC orders sulfate removal kit for Buzios FPSO

EAST KILBRIDE, UKMODEC has contracted VWS Westgarth to provide a seawater treatment package.

This will be integrated to the topsides of the FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, for deployment at the Buzios field, 180 km (112 mi) offshore Rio de Janeiro in the presalt Santos basin.

The seawater treatment plant will be engineered to handle 280,200 b/d (44,450 cu m/d) of low sulfate water.

It will be supplied as a single process module, comprising coarse strainers, UltraMEV ultrafiltration pre-treatment, sulfate removal feed pumps, sulfate removal membrane trains, a membraneCIP system, vacuum deaerator package, water injection booster pumps, plant control system, piping, valves and instrumentation.

The Almirante Barroso will be the fifth FPSO at the Buzios field, spread moored in 1,900 m (6,233 ft) of water, with crude storage capacity of around 1.4 MMbbl.
