Eoliennes Méditerranée Grand Large, a joint venture between EDF Renewables and Maple Power, has won a floating offshore wind farm tended for a project in the Mediterranean Sea offshore southern France.
The award covers the design, construction, operation and decommissioning of the 250-MW development, which will be located more than 25 km from Fos-sur-Mer.
BW Ideol, a technology partner to the consortium, said the award confirms the cost-competitiveness of floating offshore wind supported by the nearby production of concrete floating foundations.
CEO Paul de la Guérivière added that BW Ideol’s technology was one of the few proven at sea under real-world conditions for more than five years.
“Our ability to anticipate a credible and local industrial plan for our concrete floaters at an optimized cost represents a unique advantage," he said.
BW Ideol supplied the Damoing Pool floating foundation for the 2-MW Floatgen floating wind turbine demonstrator, which has operated off the coast of Le Croisic, western France, at the offshore experimentation site of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes since mid-2018.
