This follows an extended demonstration of the SATH (Swinging Around Twin Hull) technology at the BiMEP open-sea test site offshore the Basque Country in northern Spain.
The prototype wind turbine has a power output of 2 MW, with a rotor diameter of 96 m. It is held in place using a hybrid mooring system connected to drag anchors.
According to Saitec, the final prototype certification of DemoSATH2MU provides assurance that a comprehensive set of standards for safety, structural integrity and operational feasibility, including BV NR 572, have been applied to the DemoSATH floating platform.
The process followed a review of the project’s various engineering aspects, including the platform design, mooring systems, safety, and electrical low and medium voltage systems.
This opens the way for future deployments in commercial floating wind farms globally, Saitec said.
