Windar Renovables says that it has recently begun work on adapting the land it has acquired in Asturias, Spain, for the manufacture of monopiles for offshore wind turbine foundations.
These lands, with a surface area of more than 400,000 sq m, include several manufacturing warehouses and have direct access to the Port of Avilés, from where the company already exports different components for the wind sector.
Until the work is completed, Windar says it will invest up to more than 130 million euros to adapt a large part of the existing warehouses, in addition to building new facilities, for the manufacture of monopiles.
When complete in 2027, the new factory will produce monopiles for the “new generation” of wind turbines, which have an installed power of more than 15 MW. To achieve this, the new facility will be designed to produce monopiles of up to 12.5 m in diameter, 3,500 tons and 130 m in length.
Windar Renovables says the factory will have an annual capacity of between 100 and 120 monopiles, whose potential destination will be mainly wind farms that will be installed in the North and Baltic seas, in addition to the East Coast of the US.
