PARIS, France — The German Federal Network Agency has awarded TotalEnergies, as shareholder of Offshore Wind One GmbH, the N-11.2 offshore wind concession in the North Sea.
This covers a 156-sq-km area 120 km northwest of the island of Heligoland.
TotalEnergies plans to establish a 3.5-GW offshore wind hub by exploiting potential synergies between this new lease and the 2-GW N-12.1 it secured last year.
By June 2025, Offshore Wind One will pay the German Federal government €196 million ($210 million) for use in marine conservation and the promotion of environmentally friendly fishing operations.
It will also pay €88 million ($94.25 million) annually to the electricity transmission system operator tasked with connecting the development over a period of 20 years, starting from commissioning of the site.
N-11.2 will run for 25 years, potentially extended to 35 years.
The award follows TotalEnergies’ acquisition of renewable electricity producer Quadra Energy and battery storage specialist Kyon Energy.
