LONDON — DEME has contracted Venterra Group subsidiary CAPE Holland to support monopile installations at the 2.6-MW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, 27 miles offshore Virginia Beach in the US.

The company will deploy a CAPE VLT-640 Quad spread and a separate CAPE VLT-640 unit for the 176 monopiles, each weighing up to 2,200 t, with a top diameter of 8.5 m.

Operations will take place from DEME’s installation vessel Orion, with the monopiles driven through the initial layers of soil using the CAPE Vibro lifting tool to mitigate the risk of pile run.

An impact hammer will be applied for final penetration of the monopiles. The equipment spread should facilitate a pile run-free installation of jacket piles for three offshore substations.
