ROTTERDAM, The NetherlandsEcowende, the joint venture between Eneco and Shell, has contracted Van Oord to construct the facilities for the 760-MW Hollandse Kust (west) lot VI wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.

The location is 53 km from a point on the coast near the port of IJmuiden. Ecowende plans to have the wind farm fully operational and commissioned in 2026.

Van Oord company will allocate the Boreas, currently under construction, for the foundations/turbines transport and installation scope.

To minimize offshore construction noise, Van Oord will deploy a vibro hammer, using vibrations to drive the monopiles to their required depths—the first large-scale implementation of the technique at a Dutch offshore wind farm.

Another vessel, Nexus, will install the inter-array cables.

To avoid erosion impact, one of the company’s flexible fall-pipe vessels will provide scour protection via high-precision rock placement around the foundations. Van Oord has advised Ecowende on nature enhancing features in the scour protection design to support a diverse marine habitat.
