EDINBURGH, UK — White Cross Offshore Windfarm, a joint venture between Cobra and Flotation Energy, has submitted an onshore planning application to North Devon Council.
The proposed 100-MW White Cross floating offshore wind development, 52 km off the North Devon coast in southwest England, will comprise up to eight floating wind turbines that could supply power to about 135,000 local homes.
The proposed export cable route, based on consultations and feedback, would make landfall at Saunton Sands and connect to the electricity grid at East Yelland substation. To ensure efficient transfer to the grid, the co-venturers also plan to construct a new onshore substation unit nearby.
White Cross is part of the Crown Estate’s Test and Demonstration leasing opportunity, designed to foster development and commercialization of floating energy technologies across the Celtic Sea.
In addition, the project could support a regional supply chain in the southwest and the scale-up of later offshore wind developments in the Celtic Sea region and beyond.
Earlier this year, the co-venturers submitted the project’s offshore consent application to the Marine Management Organisation.
